Boston Acoustics iPod dock reviewed

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new favourite iPod dock......say hello to the Boston Acoustics duo-i plus. Several times a month, distributors and manufacturers come through our doors with new products for us to view and consider for selling. Not surprisingly, iPod accessories are probably the most frequent products we see, and docks especially. These vary from £30 for a real 'economy' brand upto (literally) thousands of pounds. Obviously, when the webstores relaunch we will be selling a very wide range of docks from a whole raft of manufacturers. But up until recently we have focussed on selling (in the retail store) only docks that pass our own 'listening test'. From Bose to the heavily-praised Orbitsound, as well as new brand Geneva we stock a range of products from £99 upwards.

Boston Acoustics duo-i plusBut the duo-i plus is the new pick of the bunch. Available in two base colours (black and white), and five different speaker grille colours, it might well be considered a little 'industrial' looking, but thats just about the only negative thing I can say about it. The dock works with all the current iPod/iPhone range, and also gives you FM/AM radio, auxiliary inputs and alarm clock functions, but the HUGE positive comes when you plug your iPod in and play some music. This thing sounds awesome.......rich bass, clear midtones and plenty of room-filling sound without any distortion (at least, not before it gets too loud for a decent sized room).

A quick word about Boston for those that don't know - in the US, they are a HUGE brand and are part of the D&M stable who also own (more well known in th UK) brands such as Denon and Marantz. That in itself gives an indication of the quality of their products.

Anyway, don't take my word for it - come down to the retail store and hear it for yourself. Don't forget to bring £199 with you though - if you're in the market for a high quality iPod dock, I assure you this one is worth checking out.
